Id like to thank everyone for the support and information, this place.. and divers, really are great!

I am quite excited about getting out in to the open water, and I will be doing that next weekend! Made it through all the textbook and pool courses, so on to the ocean.

Have you expereiced any unpleasentness while diving the wall at break water as far as fishing lines and hooks are concerned? I was concerned that it may be easy to tangle in lines and have a fisher thing your a fish and then hook you while trying to reel in.

Almost hooked once... and a buddy got snagged on the dryglove one time... As long as they aren't using 180lb test I think you'll be the big one who got away :)

I got hooked twice on one dive. We were on the trigger and I saw the line at the last second. Line tangled on my valves but didn't hook me. Buddy had to cut me free.

Second time the hook caught the nose ring of the scooter. Just up-shifted twice and snapped the line.

I guess you could say I was the one that got away!

Geez the odds of that actually happening must be so low. I dont think you could get the scooter ring hooked again if you were to try .

It doesn't sound too bad, just have to be conscious of the lines I guess... that and be up on my tetnis shot. :D

As long as you can cut yourself free it is just part of the diving adventure. Make sure you practice deploying your small knife and a pair of shears routinely, then try cutting some fishing line you find. So that when needed, it becomes second nature.

From talking with Bruce at Aquarius on Del Monte, I like his teaching style. He spends the time with the divers, to not "just" pass them, but so they understand and can perform the skills needed in each different class. They are the shop in Monterey that gets our business too. The're also one of places that has banked nitrox :14:

Thats what Bruce was telling me, nitrox wise.

Also I agree I started asking him about Nitrox and before you knew it he was basically giving me the class for free. Going over Dalton's Law etc. Great guy, and its where I would have no problems feeling good about what I learn/am told.

Bruce is nice...as long as you buy gear or classes from him. Just expect to be told he doesn't want your business when he figures out you're only coming in for fillls. Even if your group spends over $1k on fills in a week's time.

Maybe next time you should buy a snorkel from him...

$1K = about 100 fills. Wish I could dive that much in a week.

I've not bought much from Bruce and Wesley except fills. Maybe 200 fills a year, Nitrox,
mostly 100s at $10 each. Let's see, what else? Some bulbs for Ikelite dive lights.
A set of Diving Concepts undies, mostly because the DC rep was there that day.

Bruce and Wesley and Cody have never been anything but nice to me.
