You make me  ... Thanks for the compliment. As for the AOW and EAN courses - I am more of the impression that people should take a while and get some dives in before they move onto the next course. That's my opinion though. :) I like AOW is good simply because it will generally teach you to be a BETTER diver, more aware, etc. but I really believe you have to get OW certified, then get some practice, get used to diving, your gear, etc. and then learn to be a better diver, add additional skills.

I think one of the nice things about our area is that, if you are a coldwater diver, that is a badge of some description. And while you might not be AOW or a technical diver, etc. the mere fact that you are willing to dive in cold water with sometimes (oftentimes) less than optimal conditions/visibility creates a bond between divers. I don't know, it is something that I've noticed myself. Perhaps I'm just naive :D

welcome to :sblogo:

I see you already found the NorCal section. There is a wonderful community of divers in Monterey as well as Northern California (and Southern). I hope to meet you one of these weekends, and who knows, maybe we'll even go for a dive!

Actually the owner of Aquarius turned me on to these forums. However I do agree, getting more OW dives before going technical. Experience is key. Fortunately for me I already have 1 dive under my belt before being diving, granted again it was in Jamaica.

These forums seem like a great place to meet other Monterey Divers as well as getting involved with community events.

I will keep my eye out for the next community event and plan on being there. Again when time comes closer and im closer to my cert. ill put an open invite out to anyone wanting to come with or school some noobs at breakwater.

Welcome bbianci! Yes, this is a great place to meet new dive buddies and learn about any aspects of diving you're interested in. I also agree that learning to dive here will make you a great diver.

I look forward to meeting and diving with you at the next Meet & Greet.

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I have been working in Silicon Valley for the past couple of years, but living in the Fresno area. I finally managed to sell my home and I now call Monterey my home. I also am currently going through my open water cert and am all geared up and anxious to get in the water as much as possible.

I am very anxious to start making some new Dive buddies and begin on my road of enjoyment under the waves. If anyone needs a buddy in 2 more weeks feel free to send me a PM. I am available almost every Friday and with notice the weekends.

Hello everyone I work with bbianchi in San Jose and I am in the same cert class that he is taking.
