I got my BP/W today!! YAY! wing is Apeks, 30lbs(i think, it was a demo I've dived a few times) SS Diverite plate with weighted STA. Now for the question for ya'll:
with the 10lbs I now enjoy over my back, I have 4 pockets for last 20lbs, I am going to put two pockets(10lbs) on cam bands and two on the waist strap.... for the waist strap, so the pockets don't slip around, I am thinking of stiching in the fuzzy side of velcro along the back side of the webbing then making strips to cover the back of the pockets to anchor it in place... anyone think of anyreason why this could be a bad idea?

I don't find anything making it a BAD idea, but perhaps more trouble than it's worth. Just get two weight holders and thread them onto your waist strap after you put the pockets on. When you slide the pockets against the plate and slide the keepers up to the pockets they will be very secure.

What kind of pockets? What weight is your STA? How much total weight do you need?

I dive 32lbs now, with the BP/W I was able to shave off 2 when using alluminum. The rig I bought is SS(6lbs) and STA(4lbs) so I"ll be moving 20 up off my belt. How are weight holders different then the clips that webbing is thread through to hold the d-rings in place? The pockets areTridents...hold 5lbs weights.

Wha kind of harness setup are you using? With Dive Rite you can mount the pocket threaded into the shoulder strap/waste belt hardware. Keeps them stable at the hips and still easy to reach.

You could do this...

... put two of your weight pockets on each cam band. Slide 'em back so that they are up against the STA on both sides. They will be tucked in between the plate/wing and the cylinder. Then split up 10 pounds... maybe one 2# weight in each pocket on the top camband and one 3# weight in each pocket on the lower camband. Then put 10# on a standard weight belt. Position these so that they are in the small of your back on each side of the cylinder. They will be out of the way and won't interfere with your long hose or with what's going on over at your left hip D-ring.

The Trident pockets MIGHT be a little big. My Halcyon pockets work perfectly for this set up but they max out at 3#. Doing it this way would allow you to tweak your trim by how you distribute your weight on the STA (camband pockets) and it also keeps the waist belt of your harness clean.

well, I really want to ditch the wieght belt... I think I'll try the holders. Thanks guys!

I am diving a setup like what you are contemplating, but I kept the weight belt. When I put weight pockets on my waist belt, I thought that was too much weight and too much stuff on the waist strap (knife, can light, weight pockets), the waist strap would sag a bit. The simpler solution was a 2 inch webbing old school weight belt. With a dry suit, I don't even realize it is there.

My two cents. Try it on your waist belt, if it isn't working maybe go back to the weight belt.

Either way, Matt at NW Sports Divers sells the tri-glides with teeth, these are a little bit wider than regular tri-glides and hold the pockets in place on webbing a bit better. May keep you from having to sew velcro on.

BTW-we should go diving sometime, drop me a PM if you are interested.

Sounds good, might have been what MAtt was hasseling dan about, putting the tri-glides with teeth on the webbing as he assembled my rig...it was funny. I told matt since he sold my STA he didn't get a say in it! lol.

Kevin,

In addition to what others have said, I would consider where you currently carry the 32 lbs and your present trim. Would you benefit by moving that much weight all at once toward your head? Are you currently wearing it all around your waist? Perhaps try the new 10 lbs over your back and leave the rest wherever it is until you see how you like the weighted STA. 10 lbs is a lot to move at once, let alone 30, unless you are way out of trim to begin with.

Let me know, please. I'm always looking for weight solutions.
