So I've just purchased my first set of gear, and I went with the DSS Torus single rig (26 lbs.). I haven't dived it yet, but it looks great. I also picked up a reg setup w/computer.

I've got the harness rigged and fitted according to instructions I've seen online. My question now is the best way to rig the rest of my gear to the BP/W, particularly the reg, octo and SPG/computer/compass console.

I'm not DIR at this point, and have the standard hose lengths (no bungee on the octo, etc.). What's the best way to route and attach the hoses, etc. for a non-DIR setup with a BP/W? Are there any good online guides or pics. out there? (The stuff I've seen so far tends to be DIR-oriented).

You're looking at $30 worth of hoses to rig your setup in a DIR manner. You've just shelled out nearly $500 for the BP/W, so what's another $30? :) 5-7' for your primary, 22-24" for your secondary, and 24-26" if you have a bare SPG.

I chose to rig mine GUE/DIR style. However if you don't want to do that, then just rig it like any conventional BC. You should have Drings on the shoulders, and on the waist belt. You may need to use either bike tube, or bungee down one side of the shoulder harness to keep the Inflater neat.

You can get an octo keeper, and attach it to the right lower DRING to keep the Octo secure. For the console you should likely use a zip tie and a bolt snap, and attach that to the left lower DRING. Actually when you boil it all down, what DIR or GUE is suggesting is not all that different from how most people rig a conventional BC. However they suggest bungee, bolt snaps, and zip ties instead of the fancy plastic keepers, and Velcro straps and add ons that BC manufactures add to their rigs.

I'd suggest tying zip ties and bolt snaps as I've found them to be much easier, cheaper, and more streamline than overpriced DoDads that you find at the LDS.

Good Luck, and enjoy the setup.

We don't believe you, post a picture...:)

Having recently dived my BP/wing with the standard "recreational" reg/hose setup, my advice is to spend the money for the DIR hose configuration. I was doing a pool session and I was feeling lazy, so I just grabbed my "recreational" reg setup instead of moving my inflator and SPG from my "DIR doubles" regulators. The inflator hose was too long, I ended up clipping off my backup on the right waist belt because it didn't work with the right chest d-ring very well, and my console was flopping all over the place on a too-long hose because I didn't have a bolt snap on it to clip off on the left waist d-ring. Egad, did I hate it! Strangely enough, using a jacket-style BC I can somewhat tolerate the standard recreational setup; bp/wing, though, no way can I deal with it.

With a standard recreational rig, the cleanest set-up I've found was

1. primary regulator, over shoulder, directly to the mouth

2. secondary regulator (octo), under right arm, attached to the right shoulder D-ring with an octo holder.

3. spg/compass console, under left arm, cross chest, attached to the right shoulder D-ring with a bolt snap.

Something like this...

btw, the 7' primary hose/ secondary necklace is not DIR only.

The routing is much tighter though, like this...

Sure, but "DIR" is harder to misspell than "Hogarthian." :D

Yeah, that first pic has hoses bowed out everywhere. I'd really suggest at a minimum going to a setup where you can donate the primary (be it 5-7' long hose, or 40" with swivel) and bungeed backup. For me, this was more important than getting the BP/W (I eventually did both). Also, no need to clip that SPG/console across your waist. Just clip it off to your left D-ring.

If you have the standard console length hose, and you clip to the left D-ring, it'll bow out like all the other hoses.

Taking the console across the chest takes up the excess slack, and has the added benefit of just looking down to see your pressure.

Where can you get all three hoses for $30? If you have a source please PM me, bet I seen was close to $80.00
