$80/year is a non-starter for me. Oceanic is not shipping any hardware, taking 99% of their BOM cost out, and they still want $80/year -- insanity! I ordered the watch but will wait for the first non-subscription option.
Same here. Sadly, I live far from the ocean now and only manage three or four live aboard trips per year. It's not clear whether or not you can pay for just a single month. That might make more sense for me.

No one is buying the Apple watch to replace a Shearwater. Diving is just a bonus feature in addition to everything else. I doubt that anyone on a New Jersey dive boat will sport one. But at a Club Med?

In other words, not too many on SB with high post counts. This is not their target audience.
Entirely agree. This is targeted at the occasional diver that goes on vacation and does a couple dives.

I just noticed that in Portugal the Ultra costs 1009€. A perdix 2 TI costs 1100€. Doesn't make sense.

Even my Suunto D6i (which has a lot of issues) costs 600€ and that has a 150m depth rating and a track record I know and trust (despite flaws). This ? No way.

Also, pro-tip for those considering it: Don't immediately buy first generation apple products. Wait a bit.

A.I. or no go for me. If they get A.I., then I'm in a quandary. I'm an Apple user - macs, iPhones, kid's got an iPad Mini. I use a modestly priced Casio G-Shock watch because I don't want to live in fear of scratching the display and I'm a bit rough and careless (bull in a china shop kinda guy).
it has a sapphire crystal display. Your not going to scratch it unless you rub it against a diamond

Good to 40 m / 130 ft. $800 and includes a cellular radio.

Man, I thought I was never going to get a smart watch, but if it's actually a good dive computer I think I would have to get one.

Looks like the software is by Oceanic. Picture from Apple via Macrumors.
Brilliant, something else to look out for on my metal detecting dives.

They offer 1 day ($4.99), 1 month ($9.99) and annual ($80) subscriptions. There may be a few others but these are the ones that stand out in my 5am mind.

I have had some minor issues with my Apple Watch. One exercise app disappeared and I still have no idea where it went - left me and my husband scratching my head. Needed to restart on two different occasions bc it froze. Maybe it’s just too old? But those issues would be bigger issues on a dive watch. For me, I’d use it as a backup and for the novelty. And since I don’t have $800 hanging around for ‘novelty’ I’ll wait to see how others do with the Ultra.
