I purchased seperately a 7mm Mares Farmer John and a 7mm Mares Jacket. I'm yet to get them wet, and they feel pretty stiff. I'm concerned that I might tire very quickly while diving. Can I expect it to loosen up after a few dives?

If they fiu right you will be fine. Wetness and movement will let it find the best position on your body.

Now the fit.....
It must not inhibit your inhaling
It must not assiist your exhaling
If you raise your arms straight up there should be little or no armpit tension
Put your hands on the opposite shoulders
Bend over to touch you toes, it should be just about as easy as usual whatever that is.
It should seat up into your armpits.

If you can answer yes to all those checks and if it fits you with little or no wrinkles or baggy spots you should be good to go.

Kicking is not likely to be inhibited at all. If you flap your arms now is a good time to stop.

The suit will slowly assume some aspects of your body form but that should be an enhancement, not something you are waiting for to think you have a good and safe fit.

Without knowing your dive history it is normal for folks to feel a little stiff the first time they get into such a suit. Have you tried it with the hood bib tucked in yet?

Try them in a pool or your bathtub. Be sure there is someone with you.

Haven't gotten a hood yet, that's next on my list. I'm an e-bay addict and couldn't resist when I saw the new mares suits (seperately). I bought them hoping that the medium would fit me as well, if not better than the medium i rented from my OW Cert shop. They seem to fit well, but the stiffness was my main concern. I'll try them on again when i get home to give them the armpit and toe touching test and see how they feel and sit against my skin.

The hood and gloves i'll be purchasing from my scuba shop, as I want to get perfect fit for either of them. My summer 3mm wet suit i'll be purchasing through them also.

I wouldn't expect it to get that less much stiff feeling when dry. But it should feel much better in the water.

If they were used there may be some amount of salt loading or rubber aging adding to the stiffness. You'll know when you get wet. Wetsuit roulette is not for the faint of heart.
