I must, firstly, admitt I did not read all the posts in this very long thread...having written that:
I spent the last 7 months with Nekton, on the Pilot, and quit for several reasons. Incidentally I posted a thread yesterday and it was pulled due to "slanderous" statements about the owner...I will keep this one tame.
The main issue with all crew is getting paid. The Nekton office is very slow to get out payroll and that boils down to just one person...John Dixon. Crew are the last on the list to get paid. Hence the result is an upset crew which results in poor performances. Additionaly, Nekton deducts the cost of processing credit cards tips from the crews pay, which is an abomination as that is the cost of doing business.
I too had to wait 6 weeks before I saw my first check and Nekton still owes me several weeks of pay. I had to threaten Dixon with legal recourse to get him to pay me and he did...for three pay periods, to which it all stopped three weeks ago.
I think I read in a previous post about the sanitary conditions...It's all true. If the CDC were to come aboard, at least the Pilot, the boat would be quarantined and not allowed to sail until fixed.
The engines and generators on the pilot are in poor shape. The pilot is a mess. It's old and it looks it. The crew can only do so much with what they have to work with...again, the result of Dixon not taking care business.
The crews...when I first went the work on the Pilot we had an awesome crew. The guest comment cards were full of positive feedback. I can't say the same now. There are very few crew on the Pilot worth mentioning, but I will; Dustin, Renee, David Bone, and Heike are the best on the Pilot. The rest are...not worth mentioning. Some one wrote about the married crew...we had a couple Mr & Mrs Melissa, last name I can't remember which is just as well, they are so unprofessional that they would rather be kissy face and chatty then take care of the customers, especially in the critical area such as the dive deck.
At any rate...the experience on the Pilot was an experience. I have great memories and some terrible ones. I would still be working for Nekton if for one person...John Dixon. He is the sole reason for the demise of the operation.
So if you are planning a trip on either boat...buyer beware.
