Regarding the IP, if I check it and adjust shims as required... will it change much (or at all) after filling the reg with tenacious sticky goop?

I cannot answer your specific question, as I've not compared a "packed with silicone" to a "lubricated with silicone" regulator. Generally speaking, just cleaning and lubricating a piston regulator tends to lower the IP.

If you're switching from a PTFE to a silicone grease you can expect an 8-10 psi increase in IP. SP says as much as 20 psi in bulletin #248, but that's not been my experience.
