Hello,

I do not dive, although one day I promise myself I will. What I am looking for is information regarding something sticking up out of the water near Salvo NC. I have a picture of my kids and this steel piece of something about 100 feet from the shoreline. It resembles the shape of an anchor, although when I approached it (10-15 feet of water) it's not an anchor. It's clearly visible from the shore and I can find no information, except for the wreck of the LST 471 that sound's like it could be it. No pictures of it are posted anywhere though, so I'm not sure. My children and I are extremely interested in shipwrecks as pieces of history and would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has an idea of what I'm talking about. Thanks so much!

If you will load the pics on a site - like Photobucket.com perhaps - then post them with your questions on the NC forum, I'm sure you will get answers.

If you reduce the size of the pic to around 500 max Length or Width before you save on PB.com, that'll help...

Is it possible it is an old pier piling? There have been a lot of fishing piers along the NC coast over the years that are no longer there. I know some had steel pilings. You might want to come to the NC board and ask there. The link is below my sig.
