This will be my first year to attempt diving year round and wet. I live in Northern Alabama and will be diving a local quarry. The deepest I've been at this quarry is 48 ft and the temp was 53 degrees at the thermocline 68 at surface as of Nov 1. I have a 7 mil wetsuit and was fine everywhere but my head (3 mil beany) So here is my question...will I be ok if I just get a good 7 mil hood to go along with my 7 mil wetsuit, or should I break down and buy the xcel 9 mil semi drysuit? I really don't want to drop $600 on a wetsuit this close to xmas....but I don't want to freeze either.

The hood should be sufficient. I wear a 7 mil in 39 degree water.

Thanks Snowflake 7 mil hood it is.
