I'm flying in a lady friend a few days after I arrive. I'll be in Utila at the time and obviously I need to get her to Utila. Her plane lands in Roatan at 1:15 (Continental from Houston). I'm concerned I won't be able to get her to Utila that evening being that the ferry leaves Dixon Cove at 2pm. Even if she strolls right through customs without delay ( :rofl3: ) making it to the ferry by 2 seems unrealistic. Anyone have any experience with this?

I've also sent an e-mail off to Vern asking if if he could delay his 1pm West End departure until she could get to West End. I'm assuming that'd be in the 2:30pm range possibly 3. I'm assuming it is unlikely but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Additionally, it looks like no flights are offered on a Thursday from Roatan to Utila.

Naturally she can catch the ferry or however come Friday, but I'd like to get her into Utila Thursday if at all possible.

Ideas, anyone?

Thanks

This came up on another thread...
Getting to Utila is sometimes challenging. I started Guanaja Air last year and am now based on Utila. I fly a Britten Norman Islander We are the only twin engine airplane flying charter. You can contact us at Guanajaair.com or my direct email at lagonia@aol.com. My cell phone here in Honduras is 9558 8683. We fly to and from Roatan, LaCeiba and San Pedro direct to Utila.
Best regards,Captain Angelo Lagonia

Take the earlier Continental flight # 1894 out of Houton arriving on Roatan at 12:05pm giving you an extra 1 Hour 10 min. to catch the flight from Roatan to Utila the samr day.

The Continental rep I spoke with says there is only one flight out of Houston on March 4, flight #1894. It arrives at 1:12pm, not 12:05. Wish you were correct...

Yeah, Morgans replied saying private charter @ $225. Gotta give that one some thought....
That sounds reasonable when you think about it: A reputable operator with plane, special run, landing, find the tourist, make sure she's ready to go with bags, board, take-off, land, hope there is someone there to meet her, etc. What would you charge?

You might ask your Utila dive op what he would charge to run over to pick her up in a boat, but - that could turn into an adventure. If I were her :shocked2: I think my stand would be: "If you want to see my smiling face, you will send a plane!" But I don't know your dynamics.

Correct, as shown on Continental.com. If she explained to the Flight Attendant that she had to catch a 2pm ferry, she might get moved to First Class for landing but that's no guarantee that she will not be behind others at Immigration.

Good luck! :pilot:

Good news!

Heard back from Vernon and he says he will wait until 2:15 for her. That gives her 1 hour to exit plane, clear customs, grab bags, and taxi to West End. That sounds tight but according to him he has not had a problem with his clients from that flight getting to him by 2:15 in the past.

Don your idea of asking a flight attendant to move up to first class at landing for front of immigration sounds like a good idea. I'll pass it along.

Thanks all!

Glad to hear he's willing to wait a few minutes. Hope the move up works. Everyone wants to get off the plane ASAP, but when I have heard FAs on late flights ask all who do not have immediate connections to wait one moment so those who do have immediate connections a head start, I've seen entire plane loads of passengers cooperate. Doing it for one would be easier. Hope she just has a roll-on and nothing checked and wears fast shoes.
