Thanks for the input, but I am having a tough time following the flow here. Which was the red wing you liked? And do you prefer the Venture to the Travel wing?

The Rec wing was RED. I liked the RED color but I don't like the RED.

The Travel Wing was flawless. I think it's a little square looking and I like the looks of the Venture wing better. I've not used the Venture wing. The Venture and the Travel are both 30 lb wings. Neither of them are available in colors.

I wasn't recommending the Venture over the Travel or vice-versa. But for singles the REC wing is just way too big for my liking.

Where is an inexpensive place to get the Travel wing (and still get a warranty?)

Scubatoys. They may not have it on their web site, but they are an authorized diverite dealer, and they stock many items not on their website. Remember if you order from them that you get a 10% discount for being a scubaboard member.

Actually they do have the travel wing on their web site. But you might want to look at the oxycheq travel wing. It's less money, and a little more versatile that the diverite wing. And Oxycheq gear is top of the line.

For what it's worth, I recently switched to a DiveRite BP/W transplate set up. It's really very similar to the transpac. Initially, I purchased a Rec wing, which is too much wing for a single take dive in relatively warm water (even here in Maine).

I bought the venture wing and it works perfectly. I will keep the Rec wing for when I dive doubles and use the venture wing for everything else. The combination is really terrific, by the way.

I investigated the travel wing and to be honest, I can't remember why I decided against it but something about it didn't work for me.

Thanks for all the input so far.

How does the Travel wing connect to the Transpac? Is it just held by the cam bands?

I'm not sure, but the orifice is extremely wide in the travel wing.

Travel Wings are the most compact Dive Rite air cell. They can provide up to 30 pounds of lift and can accommodate single aluminum 63 and 80 cylinders, as well as single steel 80 and 100 cylinders. An elastic outer shell helps them maintain a streamlined shape. Travel Wings are a popular choice among sport divers who dive only single cylinders -- or who want an additional, compact TransPac air cell for use solely with singles. (Travel Wings work only with the TransPac harness).

There are downsides to a Travel Wing and they include:

It can only be used with the TransPac harness (and many people who like the Transpac eventually find the nirvana of a BP/W)

It is not a shell type of wing where the inner bladder can be replaced on failure. I'm not sure of the efficacy of repairing the wing.

It's shorter and wider than most wings which means the air is more concentrated towards your head.

The Venture wing is so small I can roll it up and put it in my purse. I don't really see any advantage to the Travel Wing.

I like the way it feels now. Very barebones. Kinda like the way I would assume a good BP/W setup feels but without the metal digging in my back. (I dive in swimsuit and Underarmor T-shirt)

Sorry for the short hijaak, but the metal doesn't dig into your back. If it does something is VERY wrong. I dive with an underarmour shirt as well in the summer. Gulf temps here now are nearly 90F.

No worries on the hijack. The BP/W concept is what led me to the Transpac.

I haven't had the opportunity to try on a good fitting BP/W. The one I did try one was pretty uncomfortable. The DR Transpac fits me like I hoped the BP/W would.

That's a shame. The BP/W is SO much more flexible a platform than the transpac. But the Transpac is a nice BC. I just don't care for all the padding (requires more lead) and the DR wings don't do much for me either... though the DR Classic is quite good.
