Need advice on wing for Dive Rite Transpac

That's a shame. The BP/W is SO much more flexible a platform than the transpac. But the Transpac is a nice BC. I just don't care for all the padding (requires more lead)

Actually that's what I did with my Transpac. I stripped it and all that's left is the back plate/pack thing and the straps. So like a soft BP/W setup, but not really a BP/W because BP's have to be rigid

I'm not sure, but the orifice is extremely wide in the travel wing.

The TravelWing is held on by the cam-bands but I imagine it's a more secure attachment method that the standard plastic bolts used to attach the other wings would be.

It can only be used with the TransPac harness (and many people who like the Transpac eventually find the nirvana of a BP/W)

Nirvana is an appropriate word to describe the transition to a bp/w... according to Webster nirvana means; "DREAM: a goal hoped for but apparently unattainable."

It is not a shell type of wing where the inner bladder can be replaced on failure. I'm not sure of the efficacy of repairing the wing.

The new Travel Wing is a zippered shell with an inner bladder that can be repaired or replaced. It also has "Travel Wing" stenciled in red letters. Looks pretty cool.

It's shorter and wider than most wings which means the air is more concentrated towards your head.

When diving, I'm not sure which would be the lessor of the two evils... air concentrated at the head (Travel Wing) or air concentrated at ones butt (Venture Wing). If diving overweighted requiring a lot of air in the wing having it concentrated at the lower back or butt seems more problematic to me.

I think the intent of the Venture Wing design is to put the majority of air lower in the water column if on the surface with a fully inflated bladder. There would be less of a tendency for the wing to push you face forward. Whereas the Travel wing might have that tendency.

The Venture wing is so small I can roll it up and put it in my purse. I don't really see any advantage to the Travel Wing.

The Travel Wing, in keeping with it's name, rolls up really small too but it's way to big to fit in my wallet.

Actually, it doesn't concentrate air anywhere due to the donut design. I was unable to use the wing diving a single tank with a stage because I couldn't get air to roll to one side and stay there. I had to go to a horseshoe wing.

I do think nirvana is attainable with a BP/w.

Not having used other wings with my transpac, I can't compare. But, the travel wing is a donut, not a horseshoe. It is smaller at the top than the bottom. It does have a zippered shell. It does not push me face forward. It is really small. It is held in place in between the cam bands and the back of the transpac through the webbing.

As warm water single tank diver, the transpac with travel wing is as versatile and stable as I need.

I dive cold water with the vequivalent to the Transpac (the SP X-Tek) and use the Trav-Tek wing comparable to the Dive Rite Travel Wing.

I got the Travel wing tonight and installed it. I like it a lot. A scaled down Transpac with a Travel wing is way different than a stock setup with a Rec Wing. Its like two totally different BCs and I am really digging this setup so far. It looks like its half the size of my Zeagle Brigade now. I can't wait to dive it this weekend and see how it works out. Thanks for all the input!
