Unfortunately, your route takes you nowhere near Italy's "better" diving.

Actually, this is not true. I mean: Ustica is fantastic, and there are a lot of incredible dives in Sicily (as well as Sardegna etc.). But Portofino is IMHO one of the top 5 dive in Italy. And the Banco di Santa Croce, close to Naples, is (fortunately) not as known as it worth.
