Need a Good non-tourist restaurant in Monterey

I like to go to shuckers bar & grill in carmel. great place for the locals to hang out. great bread! shrimp and fish como great with ceaser salid. I go evertime I'm down there. It's on ocean drive on the left side heading toward the beach. Not in monterey but worth the short drive south about 5 min.

I like the English Ales Brewery in Marina. But any post dive hang out for me has to have beer

Depends what you like.
Seafood: Old Fisherman's Grotto on the Wharf is really good. Good clam chowder. Nice Fish & Chips. Monterey Bay Aquarium (Portola Cafe): At least *I* think the Clam Chowder is the best. Great Fish & Chips. And then there's Phil's in Moss Landing!
Italian: Gianni's. Enough said.
Casual American Dining: Can't beat Rosine's in Downtown.
Burgers: Archie's Diner, at the Cannery Outlets, is very touristy but is actually really good.
Breakfast: First Awakenings (next to Archie's) is very good with good size servings. Rosine's is also an excellent choice. I always get the very popular Eggs Benedict.
Mexican: Sarita's in Seaside is awesome.
Chinese: Chef Lee's is good.
Indian: Indian Summer. A1.
Steak: I've heard the Whaling Station is excellent.
BBQ: Central Texan in Castroville for dry. Smalley's in Salinas for wet.
Bars: Dunno, I don't drink.

The Charthouse is great for steak, seafood, and the view. Priced to match the view, though. The British Bulldog on Lighthouse is good for beer and burgers.

Our favorite is the Monterey Fish House on Del Monte.

Vivolos' Chowder House is the best!! just past David st, right as Lighthouse becomes Central. on the right across from the admin offices for the Aquarium
