I am researching my next reg and keep reading about the zeagle flathead VII bein certified by the Navy. I was wondering if there is a place where these result are available? I also read an article about the posidon extreme being the best cold water reg the navy tested and mares being the worst. But i didn't mention the rest. I think it was commissioned by the smithsonian. Anyone have those results?

Here are a few suggestions in the order I would try. Why not ask Zeagle Systems first? Unclassified reports "should" be available to the tax paying public. I have heard that the Navy subcontracts a lot of breathing system testing to Dive Lab, who is not far from EDU in Panama City. They may not feel free to release reports, but could probably give you the name of someone who could. Failing that, call the Navy Experimental Diving Unit

If you find a cache of regulator testing reports, please let us know. They are very interesting and thought provoking if you drill down and think about the "whys & hows".

This'll give a list of 168 matches. Please tell us if there's anything of interest. Mots of them are 30+ years old.

akimbo thanks for the navy link. It linked to approved for use by the navy. But nothing on how well the equipment did in testing. Will go through that site more this weekend. Will email zeagle and find out if they have any information.

Zung thanks for that info. I made it about half way through and they are a lot of old documents. But there are still a few I would like to read. Will tell you which when I make it through the whole link.

Try this link: http://www.supsalv.org/pdf/ANUView.pdf

This is a list of equipment used by the navy, however it does not actually detail any testing but anyway that's the best I have with regards to navy results, a comparison list can be found New Regs for 2007 | Scuba Diving Magazine (use google to get both).

Hope that's at least of some help.

Thanks, I've read both. The first is kind of what I wanted and gives some info as to where a reg is rated to, IE. Zeagles flat head to 38 degrees at 190 fsw. But it's a start. Emailed Smithsonian today and will hopefully hear back in the next few days. I figure they should have the results since they commisioned the test.

ndemeis,
I'm interested in the results as well, if you get a positive answer from Smithsonian please let me know if there is link to the test results.

I will post any information I find. If it's positive or negative. If I can't get anywhere with Smithsonian will try the navy and zeagle.

Here is a link to the/ Navy ANU (Accepted for Navy Use) list on the Navy’s website.

http://www.supsalv.org/pdf/ANUView.pdf

Our regs are on page 13. The BCs are on pages 2, 3 and 23. Unfortunately at the time of the testing, the Navy was not looking for more cold water regs, just general use regs so they didn’t perform the cold water tests and as a result we aren’t on the cold water list....but I can assure you that they have been tested in very cold climates (like McMurdo Station in Antarctica, for example) and preform well.

Hope that helps a little...

Scott

Thanks scott for the answer. The flathead VII and ZX octo are the top of my list right now along with the brigade. Trying to get as much info before I drop a lot of cash. Unlike my first equipment purchase a few years go.

A related question; What is the criteria the navy requires for it's regulators to pass it's testing?
