I generally know where Vortex is. I never really paid much attention when going up or down the road. Up until September, I lived in DFS. Which brings up an odd question - has anyone dove in the lake there?

The only thing that would keep me from diving is if I can't get the 63 tanks instead of the regular 80s. At 5 feet 1 inch tall that makes a huge difference.

I'm diving Destin Jetties with mike_s and SeaYoda?

If she's real crazy she could come dive with us on Saturday and meet three of us Panhandlers at one time :D.

I actually thought about it but I didn't want to interfere with Mike_S's trip. Being a newbie and all, I don't want to hold anyone back.

He can buddy with SBM and they can do their thing or hang out with us. I just found out that Gulf-Gulper will be bringing his son to do a science experiment (his son dives but will only be snorkeling on this trip). You wouldn't be a problem at all because I'll need to take pictures of the experiment and then GG, you, and I could take an easy swim around the rocks.

Vortex is 4-5 miles north of Hwy 90 on SR81.

I've never dove the lake in DeFuniak.

The easy thing about diving Cypress is that the boat carries the tanks for you and you can gear up in waist deep water to make the weight much more bareable

We usually take it slow, SeaYoda has to stop every other minute to smell the flowers...er...take pictures.

At the rate I'm going I think I'll have to get my own tanks. I might try to go to the Jetties then. You can have your assistant carry your equipment.

YES!, my plan worked. It's a long walk across that sand .

Now for the very stupid question. What are the Destin Jetties? Where are the Destin Jetties? I'm clueless. Never had the need to know before.

Sounds like a plan.

They come in handy if you are gonna stick with diving regularly. $10-15 to rent a tank?! Its only around $5 for a fill, some shops have air cards for cheaper fills, and some have 'unlimited air' deals(I pay $50 for each of my 2 tanks for as many fills as I can use up in a year). 30 dives or less will more than likely pay for a single AL tank.

I'd buy 2 though...

While I only have 2 of my own, I have 4 other tanks at my house that I use quite often on busy dive weekends(my friend's tanks, but they rarely dive). They spairs really come in handy.
