wondering if the battery arrived, and how you made out?
I have the battery. Took about 2 1/2 weeks to arrive to me in Cozumel from China. Its exact size as the original but a little thinner. I have to look at the wiring on the battery. It has 3 wires, same as the original. However their placement is different. I wonder if I just switch them in the plug to match the original? Ah, Dave I just read your post. Just swapping the wires to match on the plug works? Awesome. Good team work. TEAM CANADA for the WIN!:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:

Totally works. Just switch the wires to match the original battery. They just pull out of the plug. Push them back in snuggly. It's pretty much plug and play. I would put a little silicone around the inside where the top white control cap is just to make sure no water gets inside when you open the lid.

I tried to take apart one a while back and had less success than you... now I carry a new lifeline.

I'm looking for a depth rated enclosure for my icom m73, I use the m73 for dinghy sailing and it works just fine while i'm swimming around the capsized boat. There's a reason the m73 is standard issue for coast guard rescue swimmers.

I have had an ICOM M36 for years. Almost immediately the battery charging terminals corroded and one terminal disintegrated. I packed aluminum foil into the hole and it has been working and i will use it until it dies but i wasn't impressed. It sounds like the M73 holds up better.

As for a canister, if you can find an old D cell dive light (or C cell for smaller radios), pull the guts out, cut the handle off and they make great canisters.
