Bottom line up front: Your confidence in your instructor's knowledge and skills are far more important to your success and ability to learn than the alphabet soup behind his or her name. Have you ever screened a doctor for their medical school, class standing and GPA before you made an appointment? PADI and NAUI are both great. Go get wet and have a blast.

This topic has been covered repeatedly in this forum over the years, positively and negatively. Please use the search features and read some of the threads for more information.

All the diving organizations should get you the basics of scuba diving. The real deal will be with the instruction you receive and the practice and attention YOU put into the learning process. We have another organization here in Canada "ACUC" and they have a healthy approach to diver education as well.

Most people that complain about PADI, NAUI or any other organization usually have bad experiences with poor instruction, too large a class size, poor rental equipment etc and this can all be traced back to the individual instructing the course not the larger organization.

Your best bet would be to talk to the instructors, see how they plan to conduct thier course etc and make a decision from there.

Thanks walter.

If then, what is market share in US? I know PADI is getting much bigger than NAUI more and more. Personally, I don't see and meet many NAUI instructors. Almost 90% is PADI...

What's your point?

hummmm :lurk: can I join you and watch the :mfight: :jump: :boxing_sm :lightingz

I'll bring the cold drinks.....

Walter,

My point which agency issues more DM or instructor certifications because it is highly related with the current and future market share.

As I was told, PADI is everywhere compared to any other agencies. For example, NAUI has dominated Asian scuba market for a long time, but it has been moved to PADI nowadays. In addition, in my region, Mid-West, I don't see that many NAUI instructors compared to PADI ones. So,~~~~

Really who cares???? It is not the agency it is the instructor.... Of course you will meet some divers that think they have a bigger **** because they are certified with NAUI, PADI, SSI etc. This question has been addressed over and over and over and over again.

Hey look down here my market share is bigger then yours.... hmmm. but do they do the same thing????

Please God,

Steve. my question isn't about the quality and instructor. I totally agree with your and any others' points that the instructor is the most important. My simple question was to inquire about the market share ratio no matter what they are good or bad. So, the answer will be just number, not opinion........

Thanks......

OIC sorry. IMO PADI seems to have a large market share...Where I am from there are only a few NAUI shops and a ton of PADI shops... So if I were to make an educated guess I would say PADI. I have seen PADI shops all over the world especially in Hawaii and Thialand..

No, I meant what is your point that related to the issue being discussed? No one is agurging that PADI isn't by far the largest agency. They are. The question you raised was which was more recognized. The correct answer is neither. A diver with either card (or one from a bunch of other agencies) will have no problem having the certification recognized.
