is it possible to crossover the certication platform?

if we were to go overseas for PADI courses, seems like not all recognise NAUI certs...

it is very easy to move around cert agencies depending on where you are in terms of your level of training. If you are the NAUI equivilent of Open water then you can just simply enroll on a PADI advanced course without any more work than if you had done your OW cert with PADI in the first place.

It starts getting more tricky from Divemaster up. Most places with any decent understanding of PADI standards will get this done for you easy enough it states clearly in the instructor manual that this is permitted

Even at the professional levels, PADI makes it fairly easy to switch to them. Sure, it might be a more in-depth course and it might cost more, but ultimately PADI wants more PADI pro's to create more PADI divers. In my limited travels (Fiji, Mexico, Bahamas and all over the USA), it is definitely more common to see PADI facilities, but NAUI is definitely around. Plus, on a recreational level, if your goal is just to go out on dive trips, NAUI certifications should be recognized without a problem. Now, as a PADI Master Instructor, you should definitely switch to PADI, it will be the most monumental day of your life :D

While PADI is certainly larger, NAUI is just as recognized around the world. You will not have trouble diving with a NAUI certification.

I have seen divers from a variety of different agencies try to book a seat on a dive charter run by a PADI shop only to have the PADI shop question whether the certification is valid. In every instance, they just made the dive shop aware that they knew the PADI standard and, with confidence, convinced the shop their certification was fine. Once or twice the shop would ask some details about the certification but in the end, they would make a mental note that certification XXX was fine, where XXX is SSI, NAUI, BSAC, etc.

Ditto what Walt said. When I was going up through the ranks I had both PADI and NAUI DM certs and dove all over the south Pacific. NAUI was recognized everywhere as was PADI. I eventually dumped PADI and just stuck with NAUI since they were friendlier to the independant instructor. Crossing would be a waste of money unless you just like to collect cards.

I have dove and worked throughout Asia as a diver and instructor and currently as a tech instructor and have never held a PADI card of any sort - most of mine being NAUI, with IANTD and GUE on the tech side and have never had a problem diving just showing my NAUI card. If you showed up at a facility and they were refusing the NAUI card as valid I would find another facility as they are trying to run a scam on you to get you to take a class with them.
At the professional levels (DM/Instructor) there are some requirements for working as a professional that require a crossover but for diving there is no reason to change.

I have always used my NAUI cards all over the world without ANY problem whatsoever!! I usually show my "Basic" card and that all it takes. Sometimes I have to show my Nitrox, again NAUI, but never a problem. If somebody tells me that I needed to crossover to this agency or that, never happened so far, I'd just walk out and go diving with somebody else. I don't think that anyone would do such a thing since everyone is just interested in getting hold of your $$$.
