I mean, a sudden simultaneous loss of air, inhalation full of water, and massive air leak from the 1st stage would prompt most divers to focus on switching regs and GingTFO rather than searching for it. Or it could have fallen off at the surface.
 
Ummm, if it was a test regulator, they would have gone after it to test results....

You don't just "find" a test regulator......

No, just curious of the area since you say it was close to the company. While I’ve never heard of them the address is, I think, where a former dive related company of some sort was located, I wish I could remember the name.
 
This is NEX Underwater Products, we test regulators on a regular basis in this area. Currently you have a regulator that does NOT belong to you. This is a regulator that is a part of testing. Please return ASAP as this is property of NEX. Scuba Board has also been notified of this.
