Nice article,
just out of curiosity why did you choose OSTC 3 and leave out OSTC 2 and OSTC 4?

I currently own and dive an OSTC 2 (upgraded from an OSTC 2n) and my buddy a 3. They are pretty much the same except buttons and form factor, while the 4 is a step up in term of computing power and available alghorithms ...

cheers

I like the look of the OSTC computers. Where do you see the OSTC 4? I don't see it posted on their website.

You've got the model name wrong on the Ratio computer. Their website advertises it as ix3m, and you have ixm3.

Is the list in order of preference? If so, what were the deciding factors?

The ratio ix3m tech+ looks pretty awesome! DRIS has it for $1,149.00. I'd like to see a review. There's some fairly novel features in it.

Lol thank you. Somehow I bypassed that page and was looking at the OSTC 3 and there was no mention of the OSTC 4 on the top bar with the other products.

Now I feel like an idiot though.

LOL TBH, I did the same thing. I only found the 4 the 2nd time I went to the site.

I was a bit turned off to the OSTC 4 because it uses a rechargeable built-in battery. But, I just learned that the battery is a modified 18650 and it is user replaceable. You just need a T30 Torx screwdriver. HW sell the replacement battery for 29 EUR.

Now, the only turn-off to me of the OSTC 4 is the price!

I got a stack of good 18650's free from old laptops that I had. Nearly all laptops use these inside the pack, and when a laptop battery fails, it's usually only one (of 6 or so) 18650's inside that are bad. I use them in my dive lights.

The OSTC4 looks really great. I'm glad that I procrastinated the purchase of a new computer until it appeared. Has anybody used it? Have you seen a user's review?
