Empty V:That's one of the reasons why I think I'm going to stay away from DIR. Any method that starts off stating that everything else that has ever been done is wrong, is bogus to me. Reminds me of Heaven's Gate, more kool-aid please!
Sorry for Hijacking your thread Midnite135, I should have expected this to happen.

NWGratefulDiver:I would counsel you to withold judgment until you get to actually meet and dive with some DIR-trained divers. Most aren't as bad as the Internet conversations make them out to be ... and they make great mentors.

Quarrior:I think your LDS has worked extra hard to earn and keep your business. I hope you return the favor.
This is how all LDS' should be doing business.
Mo2vation:Dude - If you need to rant on something (and you know I love ya, Billy) stick with something you can speak intelligently to. In SoCal you're surrounded by many of DIR's finest ambassadors. If you're hating on DIR its because you're holding onto the sour grapes you came in with. None of the SoCal DIR divers I can think of you could have every possibly dived with recently have been anything less than accommodating, welcoming, gracious and fun.
Did I mention skilled? Yeah - there's even some of that down here.
Oy.

That's very strange ... agencies generally recognize each other's certifications until you reach the "professional" ranks ... DM or AI level ...midnite135:That said, they seem really good about some things like that, but I did my OW classes through another shop that turned out really poorly, so did my checkout with this shop im dealing with now(SSI), they helped out on the BP/W purchase but when I did my AOW in Hawaii from a PADI shop they blasted PADI and make it sound to me like they will not recognize the AOW for continuing ed through SSI. This is a discussion that will be hammered into soon, but shouldnt they recognize each other?
No worries Billy ... lots of us go through the same process of ideas that you are. You should go read some of the DIR-based posts I put on the board four or five years ago. It would be hard to reconcile them with where I'm at today ...Empty V:Ken,
I wish you could have read a PM I sent to someone regarding this post. I told him about the amazing DIR divers that I have dived with (mainly you, Claudette, Josh and Adam) and how welcoming and you all are. I also explained how the times I have dived with the likes of you, you did not force a sermon or lecture on me. For that, DIR still remains a possibility. There are a lot of things that bug me about DIR, but there are also a lot of amazing aspects to it, and I'm still learning. I knew this would stir the water a little bit, thankfully, I have people like you and the others I named who are always here to help, hopefully one day I can return the favor.

NWGratefulDiver:... OMG ... I've corrupted another one ...
