Then, yeah, I'd agree it would work for a few sips like that - before you have to fight the bottle's plastic trying to reform itself. If you tried, I guess you could almost get 3/4 of the bottle empty.

Though if you leave a little air in it, it will compress as you descend, perhaps giving you a pressurized water flow. If you're careful about closing it off, I can't come up with a reason it would be bad.

It's made with doubles in mind though, at least as far as attachment points.
 
Using a sport bottle, you can drink, then blow air into the bottle.
If you get too much air in, the ascent is interesting. (free-flow in my pocket and listing to port :shakehead )
