Why CV for aircraft carrier - never worked that one out....

There's also MY - Motor Yacht, though I have never seen one that bares and resemblance to a yacht!!

"C" is for "Carrier"
"V" is for "Aircraft, Heavier than air, fixed wing"
Helo carriers are not "CH," however, but rather "LHA" etc...
Don't look for reason or consistency. These designations were dreamed up by the Navy.
