NUMB was one word that came to mind after Folly Cove yesterday. Those little tootsies were feeling the 50 degrees, for certain.

Does anybody here layer their foot attire during these late season wet dives? I see neoprene socks available in 2 mm and 3 mm, e.g., http://rsn.altrec.com/shop/detail/3502/13?nextp
and it seems that might be a good accomodation in this temperature range.

Awaiting your wisdom . . .

What do you wear now?

A pair of neoprene socks under some neoprene booties works fairly well.. I prefer to wear some wool socks under the neoprene socks when diving cold and wet

...but your feet will be a bit more buoyant which could be annoying but probably not.

Another trick is to seal up the area where the boots meet your suit with duct tape to reduce water flow.

The water temperature at Folly was only 50f at the surface yesterday. Once you hit 15 feet it dropped to 46f so no wonder your feet were chilled. I was there too except I dove dry. It was a great day to dive there. Got in two dives in excess of an hour each.

I free dive in the winter and have to layer up my feet and put on my much larger size of fullfoot fins.

I wear 3 pairs of footies and it works GREAT. First Pair is the neoprene socks, then the tri-lam socks, then the lycra on the outside so it's easy to slide my foot in and out of the fin.

Layering works...That's a fact. And if your concerned about some little neoprene socks causing a major bouyancy problem, then just get the Henderson Tri-lam socks...
