I would like to know if there are any good lakes to dive in the area? If not how far of a drive is it to get to some good diving? I done mostly lakes and rivers in Idaho and some west coast diving.

We are moving because of the job I got in the area. But basically we can live anywhere in Western NC but Asheville is in the center of my work area so we thought we would rent till we find an area we like before we buy. Heard the Black Mtn, Candler & Barnardsville areas are nice places to live. Where would you guys suggest we look when we get out that way?

Thanks,

Most folks in that area drive down to Lake Jocassee in South Carollina Lake Jocassee that would be the closest I think.

Here is Asheville's LDS called Burmuda Triangle Bermuda Triangle - Home They should be able to answer all of your questions.

Barnardsville is further away from Lake Jocassee.

Lake Norman is near Charlotte. You need to be a member fo the PDRA to go, but once you get the membership (I think $40) for a year it is free to get in.

Norman and Jocassee should both be right around 2 hours depending on what part of Ashville you are in.

A little more to the west you have Loch Low Minn which is probably more like 3 hours away, but a great quarry if you are looking for something tame. I dove there several years ago and one thing I really liked that I haven't seen anywhere else is they have a golf cart that they will bring around the dive site to pick up empty tanks, fill them and bring them back.

From south Asheville (Skyland), it's closer to 1 1/2 hours.
