Hi all,
I will be moving to the Fort Worth area in a couple of weeks and am looking for info on dive shops and locations. Any info would be greatly appreciated

From Ft Worth, clear water is only a short drive and an airplane flight away.

If you're in north Fort Worth as I do (by Texas International Speedway off IH-35w), I prefer the 15-20 minute drive to Denton to Island Divers.

If you have Aqualung / Scubapro / Diverite (those are my brands, but yours may vary) then they sell/repair it. Lee (owner) is very personable and I've taken my business there since moving this way.

He does PADI and TDI, I'm not sure what else.

If you're living more toward central/south Fort Worth, then some other shop may be closer/better.

Welcome to Texas!

Steve,
Thanks for the info. I have Aqualung/Apeks regs. I tend to lean towards SSI as that is who I completed my instructor card through. (My gift to myself coming back from deployment) Any thing reasonable drive distance for diving.

This is about 5 hours south of DFW - at least that is where you get on the boat for a 120 mile overnight trip to great diving. Fling Charters

I am sure that there's one closer, but Tom's in Austin is SSI and they are a Aqualung/Apeks dealer also.

Despite the bleak picture awap is trying hard to paint, there are several very interesting dives within an hour to hour and a half drive of Ft Worth. These include:

Possum Kingdom - 80-90 miles west, boat needed
Clear Springs Scuba Park - 60-70 miles east
Lake Murray - 80 miles north
Lake Broken Bow - 200 miles northeast (okay, three hours)
Lake Travis - 200 miles south (three hours)
Valhalla Missile Silo - I don't know the distance offhand

All of these have compelling dives. Some of them have decent visibility, especially in the cold months. If you're looking for crystal clear warm water with colorful fish then you could be in for a lot of travel time and expense. I don't recall that being in your original post however. Welcome to Texas!

I saw that he was coming from north FL and realized they probably have a different standard for scuba sites than north TX. :D

I've been there for work, and have been to Lone Star Scuba in Ft. Worth at Alta Mara and I-30, they were really nice, and sell scubapro among other brands, and also have been to Scubatoys a few times in Carrolton, and it is pretty well known on ScubaBoard that they are a great place to buy gear.

An SSI shop is Scuba Sphere just off the Weatherford traffic circle on Camp Bowie right behind Risckys BBQ. Close to them on Alta Mere just south of I-30 is Lone Star Scuba. Both shops are VERY helpful.
Welcome to Ft Worth
