THUNDERBALL!

Come on, those awesome underwater scenes with scores of divers? Maybe not the best movie but a darn good dive movie ( and a movie that was shown continuouisly when it came out it was so hugely popular.

And as for dive movies...

Men of honor

beneath the 12 mile reef ( groove on that groundbreaking music!)

BTW, I much preferred Blade runner without the added voice over, a legacy from when the insurance company finished the film.

And I didn't think it was such a bad book either

That was me! And how cool to find film buffs here too! What's your course like Dafydd? I once snuck into a screening of "To Have and Have Not" at the film school at my college and as I left some students were pondering "the significance of the bee" and I thought, what bee?!

My all-time fave is, again, All About Eve, but it's hard to pick just one - how about categories? What are your faves, if any in the following categories (mine listed in parentheses):

1. Favorite classic (All About Eve)
2. Favorite comedy (Duck Soup and any Marx Bros really)
3. Favorite musical (Swing Time; Oklahoma)
4. Favorite western/ sports (Shane; Bull Durham)
5. Favorite sci-fi (Empire Strikes Back)
6. Favorite war/ prison movie (La Grande Illusion; Shawshank Redemption)
7. Favorite romantic / epic saga (When Harry Met Sally)
8. Favorite bad movie (Dune!)
9. Favorite transcendant movie (Pulp Fiction; Run Lola Run; Being John Malkovich)
10. Favorite foreign (Au Revoir Les Enfant; In the Mood for Love)
11. Favorite film noir/ gangster (Maltese Falcon)
12. Favorite city-specific movie (Chinatown - LA)
13. Favorite movie involving food (Babette's Feast; Eat Drink Man Woman)
14. Favorite road movie (Thelma and Louise; Butch Cassidy and the SK)

And much, much more!! :bounce:

10. The Red Violin
9. Dr. Zhivago
8. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
7. Goodfellas
6. The Shawshank Redemption
5. The Godfather (Parts I and II)
4. Good Morning Vietnam
3. Rain Man
2. Life is Beautiful

and my all-time favorite film, that cinematic experience which has most profoundly shaped my outlook on life, my values, and indeed my very being:

1. Airplane!

"Wuz you ever bit by a dead bee?"

Virtually the only line walter Brennan has for quite a while into the movie.

Who do you think finally answers the question?

Could it be...Slim?

Can't understand why these are missing from others' lists. [Note to self: find out if you're actually weirder than you thought].

1. The Big Blue
2. The Big Blue
3. The Matrix

#1 Braveheart
#2 Back to the Future #1
#3 The Green Mile
#4 Rudy
#5 Iron Will
#6 Harold and Maude
#7 The Wizard of Oz
#8 Forrest Gump
#9 Mary Poppins
#10 The Sound of Music

seems to me I change my mind depending on what mood I'm in at the time. But my all time favorite is usually either Braveheart or Forrest Gump. I once sat and watched FG 8 times straight. some of my other faves are:

Star Wars trilogy
Saving Pvt Ryan
The Matrix
Shawshank Red.
Usual Suspects
Fight Club
Dumb and Dumber (can't get enough of that one!)
Superman

a bunch more I'm sure, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
