I wonder how the octo's are breaking the barnacles off the rocks? I've never tried, but I imagine it would be a struggle even useing a dive knife. It brings too mind a den I found in Sechelt Inlet where the inhabitant had a number of live rock scallops stockpiled at the entrance.

Many of the giant barnacles were clustered on top of each other in big "balls". Sometimes at Ogden Point I've seen the same clusters eventually fall off from their own weight (unless it was divers kicking them).

Looks like a sweet dive site, nice vis that day too.

Vis was only about 10-15 feet which is what I expect around Spring Bay (except for Ten Mile, which usually has better vis). The wide-angle lens on my camera forces the perspective and makes the vis look better than it really was.
