I am very prone to motion sickness but got certified to dive 2 and half years ago. I have dove about 50 dives, 2 weeks in Roatan, some in puerto vallarta and one in belize. I have been max depth of 102, by mistake. I have had the patch on on all the dives and thus far it has not been a problem. When we were in Belize ( through a cruise) the dive operation noticed I had the patch on after the dive and said he would not have let me go if he knew I had it on. Is there some danger to it I don't know about? I love to dive and would be afraid to try it with our meds ( the thought of vomitting under water scares me)! and so I have not risked it).
Thanks Lynne

As far as vomitting underwater goes - it's not that big a deal. Goes right through the reg.

or you can just "undo" one corner of your mouth from the reg, while keeping the
other in place, and let it rip.

just don't take out the whole reg off your mouth.

I don't understand why your DM told you he would not have let you dive if he had known you had a patch. It's widely used by divers. I rarely dive without meds, usually the patch.

The Scop patch comes up often on SB. Run a Search on Scop or the full name and gets loads of hits...!

(1) Some say it's an antihistimine pump, and will increase chance of Narcosis.

(2) Some say it's better than dying from seasickness.

(3) Some say to put it on the night before, in case of a reaction.

(4) Some say to not take it off for a week, as withdrawal can be bad if the pump is still going strong.

If you use one, clean the skin with alcohol, let it dry, then apply and leave it.

Some say you'll feel better once you get in the water, but if you puke once in, hold the reg with your hand, so it can't slip out even if you gag.

Some say you'll do better with the problem with experience, so keep going on trips.

For all the above, mileage may vary...??

BTW, there's no reason why you can't put the patch on your abdomen, or any other clean, dry, non-hairy place where it can't be seen. It works just the same.
(How'd he do that...?!)

Good Answer...!!

good luck, don
