I'm a Fish!
I took the trip up there the other weekend and it looks like its open but not sure if it was offically. The gate that kept you off the property all together was gone and there was another parking lot gate that block just the parking lot off closed. The place looks amazeing!! They really have done a great job! There where other dive instructors there at the time doing check outs so I figuerd It was ok to dive. Does anyone know what is going on with it offically? Is it open closed? are they going to start chargeing?

Morrison is not open, and they are fining people for diving there(tresspassing) until the construction is officially complete.

Personally, I thought the place was a much nicer dive site before they built a huge park all around it. Looks very un-natural now.

Morrison is still closed and people diving there will only get the site closed to diving permanently if the county decides so. We need to stay away from there until the land owners say it's okay. Anyone who is cavern certified should know land owner relations is a big thing in diving the springs.

And I agree with Mat, it was much nicer before the "improvements".

This was very much a cavern/cave diving subject as well... but whatever.

Good to know thanks for the input!! And yeah I can agree with the whole natural look and how they changed all that. I did like it before too. What was the cave like before though I heard back in the day it used to go really deep?

they haven't changed the spring or the underwater portion, just the facilities are modernized.... No longer just natural.

I heard years ago they blow up a partion of the cave to make it smaller or something like that.

I think he is talking about before they blew the entrance to the cave up back in 1968, after some divers died in the cave. Go to the link below and you can see a map of the cavern that we dive today, as well as the cave that is underneath it. To bad the cave is no longer accessible.....or is it????
