I'm at a conference in Monterey. Monday 10/16 is a relatively free day (I need to go up to San Jose to pick up some people from the airport in the afternoon).

Anyone in the area up for a dive 10/16 am? ("Easy" dives only! I'm a novice, and the coldest water I've had to deal with is 58F at depth; minimal current/surge; 30-50ft viz).

Thanks!

Sure, provided nothing comes up, I'll be up for it. I'm a novice too, but have been out at the breakwater a few times. i might drag one or two people from work along as well if their schedules are free.

ill be in the monterey area then as well...probably will goto pt lobos on monday

Is it safe to assume that Pt Lobos does not entail a huge line (or crowd) on weekdays? (Unless, of course, 10/16 is one of those weird un-marked holidays, such as admission day). How is the entry, footing, surge, etc.?

Recommendations for a shop from which to rent tank, weights?

You can go to the park web site at
http://pt-lobos.parks.state.ca.us/scuba/Calender.html
and check. 10/16 looks Ok and weekdays usually are. I get air in Monterey at the MBDC before heading over to Lobos. Pt Lobos is a very comfortable dive site. Toilets, rinsing hoses, picnic benches and parking just yards from the enty down a boat ramp. The ramp can be a bit slippery at times but this is the likely to be the only hard part about the entry. It is a great place to go.

You can usually just get into Pt. Lobos on a weekday, just don't show up too late.

You MUST have a buddy to get in.

Be sure to do your homework on the Lobos website about where to dive -- there area
in front of the launch ramp is NOT it -- hang a left down the sand channel and swim
most of the way to the edge of the kelp (about 65'). If you aren't in at least 45',
you aren't seening the best of Lobos beach diving.

Hey but that's the best place to go treasure hunting... On a good vis day i always find stuff there... :)

I will be diving at Lobos on 10/16, possibly with a few other friends. Anybody is welcome to join us.

i wont be at lobos on the 16th but the 17th instead. the 16th ill be diving breakwater in the morning and doing night dives later in the evening so if anyone wants a night dive. monday night it is probably head in the water around 7ish i suppose
