We kept hearing reports about murky conditions, but seeing how flat the wave model was, the team decided to swing by South Monastery, and I'm glad we did! The break was quiet and the surface was calm, and it stayed that way as we took our time gearing up, chatting with Bruce, James and a few others getting ready at the same time.

Once we got some depth, it was pretty clear that the 10-15' viz predictions were going to hold for the day, and it nearly became a night dive as we entered the kelp cover. Still, we were able to see a few unusual specimens, including several lion's mane jellyfish and a good sized slap chain, itself chained to a munching anemone.
