I really like to know how you got the flash to light up the area so far away.

I was shooting in ISO 400 and trying to shoot up... The D300 is supposed to be less grainy than the earlier models but they still look sorta grainy I think... but it captures more light than a normal ISO setting.

I think it's the wide angle effect.. You may be 10 feet away but it looks 20-30 feet off... I think that's why people like it.. not only do you get a much wider shot, it appears you are further away...
