The simplest way to dehydrate the munchers is to put them in a food dehydrator. Mine come out navy blue, and I use them over and over. Store in a prescription medication bottle and they last forever in their navy blue state.

Never thot of the prescription bottles. Good idea! However one dehydrates them, it is best to use fresh ones. The ones I use and put back into the Damp Rid bag turn dark blue right away, but that may well not mean that they're fully dehydrated yet. Also a good way to carry spares. :thumb:

The oven trick does sound like it works. Damp Rid is just so convenient for me. I carry them all in the ziplock, along with some white paper filled munchers - blue until used, then blue again. My only fears are a ziplock breaking or a greenhorn customs officer getting too interested...

Customs would be my concern, too. Has anyone actually tried crossing either or both ways with the capsules in a bottle and drawn attention?

BTW, since shortly after the original post, I have been storing MMs in DampRid, inside the container, which is inside a plastic bag. I added more as they became available and pink. I checked the other day and sure enough, they are all dark blue, although some more than others. At this point, months later, they should all be equally dry so apparently there are some differences in color.

I am heading to Cozumel in April and will try them out. I really like the idea of medicine bottles but unsure of the customs risk. At this point I have quite a few so I might just use one per day or so, then bring them home to dehydrate.

Yes, my concern too, specialy here, in Peru, where customs check suspected stuff (!!!) :no:with a chemical who turn blue if positive , just like the MM....

Customs is always a concern, with many things. I have taken my MMs inside a ziplock of Damp Rid to and from Cozumel, but they were not seen - no one looked. Customs only pretends to look in my bags 10% of the time and even then not at all closely. I did have yellow electrical tape on the package with a description of contents as I often do things. Delays are possible, but how busted could you get by mistake?

TSA is a bigger problem. I've had them remove special military shoe sole dressing I picked up in North Carolina for a buddy. I do carry baking soda to Mexico as I use it in ash trays and ziplocks for my cigarette butts, but I always carry it in sealed boxes and never bring left overs home. Damp Rid? Not much chance of delays I don't think, with the blue things inside and the dive camera with it.

The Damp Rid is fast! 7 days and the capsule that sat out for 12 months is a deep blue. Much better than messing with the oven (although it's not inconceivable that the oven gets them drier...).

Thanks for the tip with the 'DampRid'..... works well!!
I now have very dark blue Moisture Munchers

:D
YW, but they weren't my idea. Early in this thread I posted my failures with microwaving them. I forgot who mentioned Damp Rid. Good, cheap product. If I lived in a humid area, I'd probly buy it in bulk to protect more, but that's not a problem the Texas High Plains. Eh, I run a humidifier all winter.

Also working on using linseed oil & tung oil finish on my wooden handled tools and neatsfoot oil on my leather goods, but I guess that's off subject. :p

You know, I can't help it. Who can actually ask for these at the counter with a straight face. I giggle every time. Too much fun.... If you do it at Walgreens, you get All sorts of crazy looks.:rofl3:
