Thanks Tex, if your boss balks, I can be postmaster this time.

Gents, I'm back, but I haven't fully caught up with the sleep yet. Just a bump so I don't have a had time finding this thread.

Oceancurrent hasn't reconfirmed his 4 pcs.

I'll go ahead and order 50 pcs; we'll have enough to cater for any new comers.

OK?

I'll take the 10 if we need it to make the minimum quantity but will be happy to back off to 5 if not.

Thanks

Question to Luis:

Arnaud, the seller measured the sample I sent, and found the through hole to be .189" instead of .165" as per your drawing. Is this on purpose to strengthen the bolt and sacrifice the air flow?

I just measured a couple brass versions and got .146" on both. My caliper is not very precise but .189 sounds pretty big.

I am fairly sure that is just what I measured, but I can't remember for sure. I think that I measured a couple of them, but I can't remember.

The 0.189 does look like it is too big. That is bigger than the second stage orifice.

Other question from the machine shop: they made their estimated with 303 grade SS, while Luis spec'ed 304. Does it matter? From what I found, 303 has better machinability but lower resistance to corrosion, but I guess the differences are not great.

Well, Awap posted that he measured two at 0.146”. If that works fine from a flow stand point, I would be inclined to go a bit smaller than the 0.165” that I measured.

A compromised would be something between 0.155” to 0.160” (probably closer to 0.160”).

I did do some structural calculations (using 304 SS for the material) of the bolt that I measured and found it marginally OK… If I recall correctly it didn’t have much if any safety margin and could still be over torque if one is not careful.

Ideally it would be good if a few other members measure a few more bolts to confirm the range of inside diameter. If the 0.146” ID in awap regulators work fine, anything larger will have no effect on the required flow needs.

Obviously, we don’t want to restrict the flow any more than necessary, but IMO this regulators have a large excess of flow capacity… what they are lacking is a structurally sound swivel bolt.

If the 0.146” ID in awap regulators work fine, anything larger will have no effect on the required flow needs.

I don’t think there is much difference between the 304 SS and 303 SS, but I am not at work. I could do an internet search for material properties, but I am running late. I will look into later, but if anyone want to check that the yield strength is the same (I think it is), it should be OK.
