can i put my aqualung octo. regulator on my new EOS, or will it just free flow under water?? I would think there shouldn't be a problem since both first stages are a diaphram set up.

It may require tuning to mate it with the intermediate pressure of the first stage but checking for this is prudent even in a brand for brand set-up.

If you put it together and pressurize it you can make a quick check at home. Get a pail of water and with the air on lower the 2nd stage slowly into the water with the mouthpiece up and the diaphragm parallel to the water. You should be able to get the diaphragm about an inch under water before you hear the delivery valve begin to open. Your primary if checked this way will open at a lesser depth.

If this sounds deep then just bring it to a shop.

First, you will all manufacturers warranties, since - legally - you become the manufacturer of the regulator. Second, you should check if your existing set is rated O2-clean or not. If yes, it will use Viton o-rings. If you put a second on the set which is not O2-clean, you cannot use the set for anything more than 40 percent Nitrox. Third (as outlined above) you should check the intermediate pressure and make sure both seconds can run on the same pressure. If they need different settings, one second may free-flow on the surface or breathe hard at depth.

Personally, I would not mix and match seconds. I would rather use the same second throughout my set-up and trough (the usually cheaper) octopus away. However, all depends on what you want do. If you go deep or long, or with different mixes, I would be very careful. Cheers!

I had not heard about voiding the manufacturer's warranty by using a different-brand octo. But I wouldn't be that surprised I guess...

Anyway, RE the OP's question: You should probably be ok, provided you tune the octo to the 1st like Spectrum suggests. Have the dive shop do this.

The other "problem" not mentioned yet is that not all shops will service all brands, so you need to find out if the shop that does your servicing will service both your EOS 1st and Aqualung 2nd.

Good luck!
