I currently have a Mares 1st and 2nd stage, but I am not too happy with my octopus. I recently came across a very good deal on an Aqualung octo, but the manuel for my reg says I should use mares 2nd stages with the first stage. Is there a reason for this? Will having an Aqualung octo attached kill me?

No. It will work fine.
Like when attaching any second stage to a first stage it's best to adjust the second stage to the IP provided by the first stage, but it will work fine as it is.

YOur good to go, I have a set up like the one you speak of. The only tine you have to worry si with the HP regs like posiden
