Hello,

I am a new diver. I went diving in Cozumel and the Grand Caymens in December. Since returning home I have had migraine headaches (only on the left side of my head) literally every single day. I have been hospitalized 3 times in the past 3 weeks. There seems to be no apparent reason for the headaches. The headaches are also not receptive to the typical migraine drugs on the market. I have been seeing a neurologist, but I didn't even think about telling him that I am a diver.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? My husband mentioned yesterday that he wondered if it possibly could be related to our diving trip.

Even if I didn't decompress as I should, would I still be having headaches from it 4 months later??? Are migraine type headaches even a symptom of DCS? The only other weird thing that I have going along with this is a deep cramp in the calf of my R. leg. That also appears to be related to nothing, but hasn't gone away either.

I would greatly appreciate any thoughts that anyone has.
Lisa

Welcome to SB. I'll see about getting this moved to Dr.Deco forum or Diving Medicine, and gives the Docs a heads-up on this. I think that they may well have some insight on this...

Additional resource would be Diver Alert Networ Medical Line: 1+800-446-2671 weekdays, 919-684-8111 24/7 for emergencies.

Lisa:
I moved your question here. I think it will be easier for the doctors to see it here. Take Care.

I just came looking to see if anyone had problems with migraine after diving--I have had migraines in the past, but not since getting pregnant almost 4 years ago. I took my first certification dives today, and not 30 minutes after getting out--migraine. So I would be very interested to know if anyone else has problems like this, though I certainly hope not on the same scale as Lisa.

Rebecca (first post and it has to be on this. Sigh.)

One of my pool students had equalization problems on the first weekend and she says she had a headache every day between the two weekends. The ENT specialist found a big wax plug in her ear. You might just have equalization problems in one or more of your left sinuses (there are four). The MDs on this site will have an answer for you.

The following hot link will lead you to prior discussions of migraine & diving that have taken place on this board. The thread entitled "Diving and Migraine" itself contains a number of useful links on the topic. I suspect that you'll find them informative.

You may call DAN at (919) 684-2948 (Mon thru Fri, 9AM-5PM EST) or email to http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/contact/email.asp?RE=Medicine

BTW, I certainly would mention to your physicians that onset of this symptom occurred at some period following scuba.

Best regards.
