I was watching a programe the other night where the owners of milliond dollar boats allowed monitoring equipment to be placed on there boats and thought that was a great idea. DO IT

Mike - In Broward water is tested off the beaches at least weekly, and more frequently if a problem is detected. We follow these reports pretty closely as any long term problems with the beaches can cause a slump in tourism.

It's not just sewage that can pop up bacteria counts. A passing freighter dumping it's sewage holding tank can cause localized counts to go up for a day or two. I've even read where a problem around the Commerical pier once was attributed to excessive bird droppings.

The papers are pretty good about major reporting problems. The Oleta River problem didn't go much further north than Haulover Beach and Bal Harbour to the south. Oleta State Park was still pretty bad as of Friday.

We've had more problems with the rip currents this week with the stormy weather - 5 fatalities this past week.
