just got this from liz this morning:

HI!

Ok, you can post this, but I have to be very careful. We are under DOT Regulation that we cannot advertise UNTIL we have their blessing.

FORT LAUDERDALE - BONAIRE - FORT LAUDERDALE
DIRECT,NON STOP

22 RETURN FLIGHTS STARTING 19 NOVEMBER 2005

FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT
airlift@goldenreefinn.com

That's the best I can do right now.

It is a definite though.

Liz

It is looking good.

This is sure to make the PBD flair up. I have been waiting for this to be anounced, I am sure thinking about a feb trip..

This could REALLY git in well for my club trip at the end of June!!!! Just need more details now :-)

Here are a few more details.
The flights are going to be Sat to Sat. They will leave FLL at 1pm and arrive on Bonaire at 4:40, the return flight will leave at 5:40 and be in FLL at 7:30. The flight will include a meal and beverages. The cost is $519 plus taxes but I suspect that is subject to change with fuel prices.
At present there are 22 flights (weeks) scheduled and I am assuming that more will be added if the traffic is there. The scheduled flights are from Nov to April (based on 22 weekly flights). There will be a web site setup for more information soon.

OK I am having a bad case of PBD and am going to plan a trip for Jan or Feb. Is there any interest in getting a ScubaBoard meet and dive started?

Let me talk to my wife we should know in a week if she gets a new job or not(hopefully she gets it).If she does we were planning on bonaire towards the last week of feb. We were supposed to go to hawaii but i would rather go back to bonaire. Where would you plan on setting up rooms at?

Man -Id like to join you guys there!Im not sure if I can go by Feb though...? I have been eyeing the Continental flights out of Houston-which is very convenient for the west coast people. I have no experience with Continental...anybody..good,bad ?

Thanks,
Drew

I have been sitting on this idea until these flights were for certain. What I have in mind is basically setting a date, talking it up on the board and see who would like to come. I DO NOT intend to arrange air/hotel/truck/diving or anything else or handle any money except my own. I may would see if we could get some package deal with one of the resorts but even then you would be own your own to do the arrangements. For myself, I will most likely stay at Golden Reef Inn unless I get 2 other couples I know to go with me, then I would try to get a 3 br at Buddy. I would love to get a bunch of us down together to dive and put some faces with the names.

why does it cost so much to fly to Bonaire? (no matter who you fly with)

I know the above $519+ taxes is a good rate, but with taxes, security fees, customs/departure fees, etc it could easily run $700 bucks.

I checked with Continental Airlines, and theirs is $759 bucks (for May)
plus taxes/fees is $811 each person. Air Jamaica from Atlanta is $633

The rest of the airlines require too many connections and lay-overs.
You can actually go to Hawaii quicker on some of them.

I just can't figure out why they cost so much than other locations
and are so difficult to get to. For example, we went to Aruba
two years ago. Got a direct flight out of Atlanta and it went great.
Got a package deal for airfare and 7 nights at the wyndham for $770
per person (with all taxes included in that price). If they can do
that to Aruba, surely someone can come up with a competitive package
to Bonaire.

Thats fine didn't know if you were setting up stuff or not(rooms). We should know if and where we are going in the next couple days. Would love to get to meet some of the people on here.

I got involved in taking care of a group for an event before and it was a huge pain in the ^&*. I didn't expect you to do all that, i just thought you were going to contact a place to see if we had a group what the break would be.
