[h=5]The Mexican government strikes again. They have just this week instituted (re-instituted) a $25-per-person visa requirement for fishermen and divers in their waters who never touch dry ground. The reason they have not been doing it all this past year? They couldn't get their web site working. It's working now apparently.

Your Coronados trip just got $25 more expensive, people.

You decide.[/h]

I was on the Lois Ann this last weekend, out of Mission bay, and asked if they go to the Coronados and this was one of the reasons that they no longer go there. :(

I've traveled Mexico many times in the past, and was also a victim of some of the Policia improprieties. Much (not all) of Mexico is corrupt and plagued. Much is also beautiful, pristine and abundant. I hope and trust any visa funding will go to a good cause, Haa! But visa's are travel 101 today, don't "trip out" IMHO. Beside that, off shore Meh'iko is very safe and awesome...

Be Safe Out There!

Does anyone know what the deal is with private boats diving the Coronados, and doing it "officially" to avoid trouble? We've been spooked to go there ourselves in our boat since they made the visa changes. (I have no desire to tangle with Mexican authorities.) However, these islands remain one of my family's favorite places to dive, mostly for the sea lions and reliably great visibility.
