While on our first diving trip to Cozumel we visited the Fiesta Sunday night on the square. We tried a corn dish being sold on the square that we are trying to find the name of and hopefully the recipe.

It was whole kernel corn cooked in water with some spices. Served in a cup with mayo, cheese, lime juices and a few other spices as an option.

Can anyone help with the name of this dish? and/or recipe?

Sorry if this is not totally dive related. But diving is what took us to Cozumel and this forum is what took us to the Fiesta on Sunday night. Both very good choices.

I will have to check with a friend of mine that is really into cooking. I think I heard her say that on www.recipe.com you and type in the stuff you have around the house and it will give you recipes that use what you have on hand. Wonder if you could use that to find the recipe for your dish if no one knows?

Underachiever, I would suggest you go to the website forumn I've attached below and ask this same question under the General Discussion area. Lots of Coz locals are on that forumn and would be able to answer your question there I bet. Good luck finding out! http://www.cozumel-hotels.net/yabbse/
BTW, it's a forumn done by Tony Rome who is the good will ambasador to all of us that visit the island. He's wonderful and could probably answer your question very well if no one else does on his forumn.

Found something called elotes. Seems to be still on the cobb but there is a version in a cup also.

I'll try the link also.

Hey Sally,
What we had did not have any meat. Just corn, mayo or cream, some powdery cheese, lime juice and some reddish powder. Not sure of the stock the corn is cooked in.

We got it at a little ice cream stand that sells this during the fiesta. First little stand on the right when you enter the square at the first chance headed south to north along the water. In fact when we made our second trip to Cozumel we made it a point to find them again.

The reddish powder was probably achiote.

Nope, Nope, Nope.

Pozole is a spicy soup made with stuff you gringos called hominy

Elote is the mexican word for corn and on the street usually refers to a whole cob, sprinkled with the condiments mentioned.

when you have it in a cup with mayo, cheese, lemon and chili (sorry, no achote) it is called Esquite

Yumm.

I know exactly what you're talking about and it's one of my favorite little food treats! Mago's sister makes it all the time, so I'll get her recipe and post it :)
