I know this is a common topic but I searched and didn't see too many opinions.

I'm specifically looking for a good mesh backpack that falls within TSA/Airline size restrictions. I see that the XS Scuba Compact Deluxe Bag has been mentioned in many threads.

Does such a bag exist and can anyone recommend a good mesh backpack?

I am looking for a small mesh backpack for carry-on that I can also use to transport my tropical gear to the boat. Normally, I just stuff my gear into a regular sized suitcase carry-on and hope for the best.

The XS Scuba Compact Deluxe Bag gets good reviews but it's length is 26" which is a bit longer than some of the size restrictions but I imagine since it's mesh it can be made a bit smaller? Has anyone successfully used this bag as a carry-on?

Thoughts/Opinions?

I use a stahlsac mesh backpack ( I think it is the Panama) as a carry on all the time when I take a dive vacation.

Fully packed it would be over the size limit for a carry on, so it really really depends on how much stuff you put in it. I usually put my mask, regulator, fins and wetsuit in it. I will then use a Akona roller for my BC, snorkel, second mesh bag and assorted other gear that I bring for my kids and wife (masks, fins, lights...).

My son uses a Dive Caddy and loves it, but we use the mesh bags once we are at our destination.

if you do this, just make sure there's no chance you will get forced to check it (due to size or full flight) as checking your gear in a mesh bag isn't too desirable.

I took our Akona mesh backpack through to Antigua and Montserrat last year with no issues. I had 2 sets of fins, masks, snorkels, and I think some other random gear in there.
