Mimpi's resort is lovely, but a little overpriced for the quality of the room. However, I am happy we stayed there. It is very relaxing. Your girlfriend can go on guided hikes if she is interested in that sort of thing. I never tried the spa.

The nice thing about Mimpi is its proximity to Menjangan. It takes a very short time to get out there.

My main complaint about Mimpi is their dive operation. I wouldn't want to use them if I was a new diver and might need help. The quality of their DM (if in fact, they are even official DM's) is more of a guide- to show you which way to go while underwater (which is fine for most people). Their gear is also crappy.

Nevertheless, I would still stay there again. Their swimming pools, hot spring pools, gardens, lawns and the overall feel of the place is very tranquil and lovely.

If you go, don't order western dishes from their menu. They don't have a high enough turnover to offer fresh ingredients for the western items- most items will have been frozen for months.

Thanks for the info. I might give them "a miss"!

I agree re. dive gear at Mimpi, not a nice gear; so you have to be carefully check and trying to get the best one or better bring your own gear.
For DM, when we stayed there on April, simply we just asked the best DM for us -my self and my daughter 11 years old (Jr. OW). On our first dive we had three divers, my self, my daughter and one lady on her 5th dive; he was busy to show various critter on the menjangan wall; seem not care if the lady has some difficulty on her buoyancy and mask until I gave him a sign to help her. He also did not care when my daughter depth almost exceeding her limitation as Jr. OW My daughter is good diver but as a kid with excellent swimming capability (she is competitive swimmer) some time she forget to control her depth if she find something interesting – that’s why I had to keep monitor her. During the surface interval I told her to more take care the divers than the critters as safety is above all. On the second dive, he did his job well.
On day 2, we had new DM, just because of a couple serious photographer insisted our DM to guide them personally for muck diving at Puri Jati. And our new DM was very helpful, more like a nanny, even to me.
Most of DM in Bali is local people although they are very experience but their educational background is limited, some smart enough some just a good diver. So, we have to tell them and clearly mention what we want.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Mimpi last April, purely as an alternative as we were continually rained out on our flight to Flores and liveaboard to Komodo. Mimpi was great. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the pools and spas clean and inviting. MY GF at the time was a novice snorkeler. After watching me dive for 2 days she asked to get certified. Her instructor was superb, Edwin. He really gave her a relaxed non-threatening introduction. I thought the dive operation there was very good. Menjangan Is. has a lot of variation and is a very healthy eco system. We saw sharks on every dive when the current was running. It is not dramatic but it was very enjoyable diving and I would go back. The equipment seemed to be in good operation. We experienced no problems with it. The combination of a beautiful resort and good diving, Mimpi has a lot to offer, both divers and non-divers.
