Has anyone had any experience diving with "Mimpi's" resort in Menjangan, is it worth the money to stay there and dive ( I have my g/f with me who does not dive, she might enjoy the spa treatment) or does anyone have some alternative places that might be better or more economical?

Hi,

As you can see from my post right before yours, I'm in the same situation as you -- planning my trip to Bali. Unfortunately since I haven't been there yet I can't give you first-hand feedback, although I've done a ton of research. I've settled on the Mimpi Menjangan for the middle week of my 3-week trip, partly because of some great feedback on the place from Bali experts in here. I checked out lots of other places, but ultimately it seemed like the best option. One reason is that it has its own dive op onsite, and they offered a great package deal that included the room, four days of guided dives, and meals.

There are other places, however...here's a link to a list of other accommodations in the area: http://baliwww.com/pemuteran/

Editing to add: I'll have my non-diving Mom with me, and that's one of the reasons I chose the Mimpi. First of all, it looks like a lovely resort where she'll enjoy hanging out by the pool and making use of the spa while I dive. Second, it's right next to the Bali Barat National Park, and the Mimpi can arrange for various tours and safaris into the park. Good luck with your research! :)

If you want to dive only - there's lot of budget accomodation in Pemuteran; many people stay there. many of these resort also have spa facility - but as ussual you get what you pay.
Pemuteran area is nice diving sites. I agree with Lee Ann, there's other added value with Mimpi Menjangan specialy if you travel with non-diver and want to make her happy, not boring. Wakasorea, MJBR and Matahari beach resort are even more luxury than Mimpi - I believe will cost you more.
is it worth the money to stay there and dive ? for me and my family - Yes; we stayed there early April 2007.

Thanks, I will continue my research. I did dive here back in around '91 or '92 I forget, but I think we did a 'day trip' out of Lovina, from what I recall it was good diving.

Yes, you can dive Menjangan (approx. 1 hr drive) and even Tulamben (1.5 hrs) from Lovina. Various acomodation and more attraction there; dolphin sighting, more restaurant, bar, easier access to tourist object, ect. there's also some diving site in lovina but not special.

What's the website for the Tamin Sari? Sorry I'm too lazy too google it!

Do you mean Taman Sari Bali? Please check http://www.balitamansari.com/cottages-main.html
an small nice resort located in Pemuteran - ask how they reach Menjangan. It take 1.5 hour or more from Pemuteran to Menjangan if using typical wooden boat.
Large dive operator in pemuteran such as Werner Lau operating large speed boat to cut traveling time to Menjangan. If not mistaken werner lau is based at Pondok Sari resort, very close to Taman Sari resort. Smaller operator use car to small boat terminal at banyuwedang just beside mimpi resort and then using wooden boat to Menjangan.

Yes, that website Wisnu provided was the place. We stayed in the butterfly suite. I will say this...WOW!! Beautiful!

We did not take a boat to Menjangan Island. They drove us and we used the park's boats. A lovely drive and not a problem at all.

BTW, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon were there the week before us. They are divers! Cool.
