The next best thing would be anything that has a weak acidity, urine has uric acid, but is not the most socially accepted thing (except for in some of the darker corners of the internet).

remember though, cocacola (any soda) has carbonic acid, fruit juice has citric acid,

I have successfully treated BAD jelly stings by squeezing a pineapple over the wound. It worked so well you could see the hydrogen bubbling off.

Resourcefull use of available items is the answer and wishing you had paid more attention ot high school chemistry class.

Hi CM...actually Coca Cola has phosphoric acid. Carbonic acid is what is a by-product of the carbonation. CO2+H2O=H2CO3 (bicarbonate) which dissociates into H+ + HCO3-.

The phosphoric acid gives the coke its "tang". In fruit or citrus drinks, the acid is citric acid as you stated. Phosphoric acid is the same stuff we dentists use to etch teeth and if you're ever noticed your teeth feeling "gritty" following a coke, it's because there has been a mild etch of the enamel. If not done too often, the etch will dissappear because calcium in the saliva will be redeposited into the enamel.

Now, on to papain and meat tenderizer. It used to be recommended. Remember however, it is a biologic product and an enzyme (protein). Some people are rather sensitive to it and it can cause allergic reactions. The paramedics here in Miami no longer carry it in their bags. Since papain helps digest meat, it does not descriminate between the jelly fish "meat" and the open wound "meat". I used to carry it with me but now I just use vinegar.

I always keep a fresh 50/50 mix of vinegar & tap water in a spray bottle. It's worked for me everytime.
