I recently added the option of a gas engine on my previously electric drive maxair 35. I installed the exact same motor, the honda gx 160, that maxair sells them with. I changed the pulley to the appropriate size on the gas motor shaft, changed the belt to the appropriate length, etc.

I have couple of questions to those who use the gas drive models.

1) Do you have issues with the compressor wanting to walk around on ground, i.e. the engine vibration makes the entire apparatus skate around on the floor.

2) What rpm on the honda do you typically run your compressor at? I notice if I knock it down to 2400 rpm it will smooth out,not vibrate, and sit still, but most other rpm's it skates around. The other issue is that at 2400 rpm the fill rate is painfully slow.

Thanks for any info current owners of this unit may have.

i have the max air 35 with the factory installed Honda. I run mine at about 3200 for the normal fill speed. It will vibrate a bit but nothing the rubber feet don't deal with. I always have it on a level hard surface ( concrete)

sounds like your motor may not be aligned it should not walk like that

I work on these units all the time, it should be turning at 2800 RPM that's factory standard. As for the Jumping around it could be a belt/alignment issue as stated by Herb-alaska or it just could be. I have had machine that could walk them selves off a dock and there isn't a single thing wrong with them they just shake. Also ensure that the feet are rated for the added weight of the gas engine, make sure they don't bulge from just sitting do to the added weight.

The rubber feet are the same on the gas version and the electric. Check to make sure that the small counter weight is still installed on the fan. I have seen it break off and make the compressor jump around like crazy.
