Charlie that particular unit I linked is on the cheap, even for that particular resort. It's on the main drag so if you open the slider, you hear traffic. While not dirty it isn't "improved" as much as other units.
I wasn't commenting one way or the other on the unit that you linked to, but instead just pointing out something that a lot of guests seem to misunderstand.

It's amazing how many people I talk to in the hot tub here at Kamaole Sands that are confused about why they are paying $xx for a dump while someone else in their group is paying less for a much nicer unit. Direct from owners using a site like vrbo is generally the best deal, since condo rental agent commissions are 20% and up, and approach 50% for operations that provide daily maid service.

ecpaul,
have you checked this place out?

regards,

My wife and I stayed at Napili Kai last Dec and we had a wonderful time. The resort is very nice, with great grounds and a wonderful beach. Also has a very interesting wall with a walking path (in good weather, during the day) over the rocky area in the picture. Snorkling is very nice also. A second beach across the parking lot is great for snorkling as turtles have a home there.

The resturant is very nice and resonable for breakfast and lunch, a little much for dinner although the food was very good.

Only issue is it's a 1/2hr drive to Lahaina, so getting the dive boats means leaving really early to make the morning dives. There is shore diving up the road, but we never got to try it.

Have a great time with whatever you decide.

Dive Smart; Dive Safe
Enjoy the ride

If you're wanting to dive out of Kihei, staying in Napili isn't your best choice IMO. The long drive to the boat ramp will have you on the road by 5am, unless you're diving with B&B, then you better leave by 4:30am!

Ed Robinson has two rental cottages. Some friends of ours stayed there last year when we went and it was really cool. I don't remember prices, but I remember thinking it was very reasonable.
I've stayed there, it's excellent. It's not a fancy resort, but, well, that's what I liked about it!

(I was in the Koki Hale, only rented one bedroom).

Also about 15 years ago I stayed here:

Really cheap, no air, but I enjoyed it too (but my information is dated of course).

Thanks for all of the recommendations. I checked out the www.vrbo site and found it to be a great find. That, combined with www.tripadvisor.com gives me just about all of the information that I could need. Through the vrbo listings I've made an inquiry about a condo at Mana Kai - we'll see what comes of it. Ed Robinson's cottage will be a nice back up.

Here is a link to a great condo just across from Kamaole Beach II in Kihei. Very reasonable with a recent remodel too!

www.debbierentals.com

It's listed on the VRBO site along with a second condo she has up in Wailea. Both are very nice.

My husband and I were just in Maui in January and stayed at the Lahaina Shores Beach Resort, it was really nice and resonable, it had a nice beach with some great snorkeling, we even did a night dive and it was alot of fun lots of Eels and other night time critters. It was right beside the Feast at LELE Luau, and within walking distance of Lahaina Divers, which is also a great dive company, we did all our dives with them and had a blast they were professional, big on safety but lots of fun and the dives were awesome!:D
